in the book bridge to terabithia i think that some of the archetypes are clear, and some are more challenging to fine. i also think that there might be more than one for certain things and they might change throughout the book.
in the book i think that the hero is Jess. he has shown a lot of different acts of courage throughout the book. one example is in the beginning of the book when all the boys (including Jess) are racing in the school yard during lunch, Gary starts making fun of Leslie. Jess speaks up and tells Gary that Leslie should race and that if he says no its probably because hes scared that a girl will beat him. he thinks about other people for example when Janice Avery stole May Belle's money and they told the whole school who she liked he felt really bad for her and regreted what he had did.
i think that the mentor in this book is Leslie. she has been with Jess all through the book and has always given him helpful pieces of advice to Jess. she taught Jess how to escape from the real world and to not think about what anyone thinks of him. for example when Jess told her about his sisters and how he didn't dare tell his family, especially his father that he drew. she told him that they needed a place just for them, which is when they made Terabithia. she really took the time to make is special, and make rules and things just for them.
i think that the shadow is actually Jess himself because, he is always getting in the way of himself and questioning himself, and doesn't believe in himself. he is always saying that he is not good enough to impress his dad, and always is ashamed to tell people that he draws because he thinks that they will make fun of them. for example when he is done doing his chores at home he'll pull his drawing pad out form under the bed and draw and when he hears any footsteps or his mom calls him he'll just throw the pad back under his bed. and he always says that he dreams of being a artist but says it will never happen.
i think the shape shifter is May Belle. she looks up to Jess and listens to him but only when she gets her way, when she doesn't she'll sometimes threaten to tell his mom that he runs in the morning or that him and Leslie go to Terabithia. for example when him and Leslie were going to create Terabithia they told her that they were going somewhere and that she couldn't come and she said that she was going to tell his mom, but when they gave her paper dolls she just ran back home so she could play with them.
